Understanding Skin Type
Your First Step to
Proper Skin Care Treatment
Understanding your skin type is like the beginning of the beginning. That's why it's the first information link on my navigation bar! ;)
It's really important we know what kind of skin we have before we go out there and get started on a skin care regime.
There are tons of skin treatment solutions out there to help people with different types of skin, and different kinds of problems. So we do want to get it right the first time, don't you think? ;)
For starters, just in case you didn't know, the largest organ we have on our body is...yep, you guessed it...our skin!
The outermost layer, known as the epidermis is no thicker than a pencil line, and is made up of a protective layer of skin cells that sheds constantly and replaced by new cells.
Below this layer are the dermis and hypodermis, that produce the oil, collagen, and elastin that give your skin support, elasticity, and shine.

- Dry Skin
People with dry skin usually have a dull complexion, and often feels like their face is tight and flaky. This is due to the lack of sebum (or oil) produced by the dermis. Those with a more severe condition may find themselves especially sensitive to the sun, wind and sometimes low temperatures. - Oily Skin
As the name suggests, people with oily skin has more shine on their face, and their pores are also more enlarged. Pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads are more common on this type of skin. - Combination Skin
This is further broken down into Dry to Oily, and Normal to Oily skin type. The earlier type has oily skin on the T-zone and dry skin on the cheeks. The latter has oily skin on the T-zone and normal skin on the cheeks.
Some people with any of these three skin types also have sensitive skin. This is when their skin is easily irritated and appear reddish. This kind of skin may be allergic to some cosmetic products and also sensitive to the sun, wind and low temperatures.
With this knowledge in hand, you can confidently embark on your search for the appropriate products and start on the right skin care regime.
