While there are many ways to treat acne, home treatment for acne is preferred by some people. They prefer to do it themselves, without the help of commercial services.

Well, if you are one of these people, I’ve managed to find some home treatment that might just work for you.

While you look through the different home treatment for acnesavailable below, keep in mind that different treatments work for different people.

So if one treatment does not work for you, try another! There’s sure to be a method that works best for you.

Fundamentals of Skin Care

Basic washing techniques

Before you attempt the other types home treatment for acne, you must be sure that you are currently using the proper washing routine.

Keeping your face clean requires that you wash it two times per day, three times at the most. Rinse well with warm water.

Using a clean soft towel, gently pat dry your face.

You must be very careful not to over-wash though.

Skin must maintain the proper pH levels to remain healthy.

Over washing will make your face dry and irritated causing more breakouts. Many times individuals will vigorously scrub their skin when they wash it.

I do not recommend this because such treatment will only serve to irritate the skin causing more breakouts.

Avoiding facial touching

Perhaps one of the most often overlooked home treatment for acnes.

Stop putting your hands by your face! Your hands contain a lot of bacteria that can cause acne flare-ups.

Keep your telephone clean as well since it often comes into contact with our faces.

For that matter, keep anything that frequently touches our faces clean. Things like your glasses, hats, headgear etc, may accumulate bacteria that may cause acne.

Make it a habit to avoid hand to face contact to avoid bacteria.

Vitamins and Herbs

Supplementing with Acidophilus

Acidophilus is a good bacteria that resides in our intestine. This is a good bacteria that fights against bad bacteria that can be harmful to our health.

Antibiotics and drugs, chlorinated water, junk and processed foods actually decrease the amount of good bacteria we have in our system.

Thus acidophilus supplementation may be necessary to restore the levels of good bacteria in our system.

Studies have illustrated that acidophilus supplementation assists in many illnesses (acne is one disease that acidophilus is helpful in treating).

We can supplement our diets with acidophilus before each meal. Two or three capsules/tablets daily is recommended.

Herbal supplementation for acne

Herbs can be one of your best natural home treatment for acne. Do not look for over night results though.

Herbs work gently and build up in your system over time. Allow 3-4 weeks of consistent usage before examining the effectiveness of herbal treatment.

Herbal supplements to include in the diet to balance the hormones are saw palmetto berry extract for boys and chaste tree berry extract for girls.

Echinacea can be used to boost the immune system to fight against acne-causing bacteria.

Some other herbs that may help include: alfalfa, burdock root, cayenne, chaparral, dandelion root, the herbal combinations AKN and BFC, red clover, and yellow dock root.

Green tea extract pills have also shown varied results in some individuals.

Vitamin stacks to enhance skin health

Some vitamins have been shown to help in home treatment for acne. These include Vitamins C, E and B Complex.

Zinc is one mineral that has shown to benefit acne in a scientific study. The results have been compared to tetracycline.

Zinc aids in healing of tissue and assists in preventing scarring. It also is important for the body in resisting infection and inflammation.

It is recommended that you also take a daily multivitamin because increased levels of zinc require more copper and manganese.

Examine effectiveness after 14 weeks. Some individuals report results in as little as 3 weeks. Your acne may get worse before it gets better during your intake of zinc.

Note: Avoid going over 100mg of zinc intake per day from food/supplement.

Exfoliation

• Next, apply the vinegar with cotton ball and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, and then rinse off with cool water.

Note, the solution should burn and sting a little.

You may not notice results the first 7 days. In fact your condition may be worse.

Allow 2-3 weeks to determine the effectiveness of this home treatment for acne.

Natural exfoliation methods using lemons

Tomato or lemon (actually any citric fruit) are excellent natural exfoliates. They act as a natural sloughing treatment to remove dead skin cells from the clogged pores.

Here's what you need to do: • Wash your face and rinse thoroughly.
• Squeeze a fresh lemon into a small bowl and put the juice on a cotton ball.

Ice cubes to constrain newly forming acne

Aestheticians as well as some other individuals have reported success from this technique.

The trick is to try and catch the pimple before it fully arrives on the surface of the skin.

As soon as you feel a pimple forming, ice it!

Take an ice cube wrapped in saran wrap and place on the skin portion where you feel a pimple about to form.

Hold it there for a few minutes.

Avoid prolonged holding as you can get frostbite skin.

Perform the above steps three times daily.

This home treatment for acne technique is effective only on newly forming pimples and rarely useful for existing pimples.

    Benefits of ample sleep patterns

Research has indicated that our hormone levels increase when our sleep patterns are disturbed.

Individuals have also reported severe acne outbreaks due to prolonged sleep deprivation.

Increased hormone levels results in increased sebum production which leads to... yep you guessed it--more acne.

It is during our time of sleep that our skin cells begin to be nourished and regenerating takes place the most as the body repairs itself from a long day.

Get to bed earlier! Go to bed at least 1 or 2 hours early than you usually do and in a couple of days you will notice your face getting clearer and healthier.
